I've recently noticed a problem with my S20 ultra that I've never seen before.

When I put my phone into flight mode my wifi turns off (and always has, that is not the problem).

The problem is when I then try to turn wifi back on while in flight mode, i get a balloon message at the bottom of the screen stating "In Flight Mode" as follows:

This is particularly frustrating when I'm on flights with WiFi access, the only way then that I can access the wifi is to actually disable flight mode, which I'd rather not do on a plane!

There is no problem with bluetooth, that works perfectly, but WiFi is disabled by flight mode.

I can't find any settings that seem to force this behaviour, and it's not always done this.

Any ideas?

I think wi-fi is supposed to be off in flight mode. This is a quote from a Samsung support page from Googling what does flight mode do: "Flight mode is a setting available on smartphones, wearables and tablets, that when activated, suspends radio-frequency signal transmission by the device, thereby disabling Bluetooth, network connection, and Wi-Fi."

if i want to be sure that my gps and celular data are not leaking = than it is my full right to turn airplane mode and turn the wifi on seperatly. The problem is looks like some one does not like when samsung users are able to surf the net privatly.  sob

I have a feeling, read somewhere recently, this is being fixed. As I have been reading lots of UI 6 update information, I think it might have been there.

I checked this on my Fold3 and S22U, and I can activate and use WiFi while in flight mode.
You could try reset the network settings, though this will delete all WiFi and Bluetooth settings.
To do this go to Settings->General Management->Reset->Reset Network Settings.

If that doesn't help, jump into the Samsung Members app and send an error report.

To send an error report:
Samsung Members > Get help > Error reports > select issue category > describe issue and frequency > Tick ‘send system log data’ > Send in top right.

I did the network reset without success, so  will try the error report, thanks for your help.

You're welcome.
Hopefully it can get sorted.

I have the same issue. It worked fine on my phone until some point (one of the updates I believe) and then it stopped. I am battling support since March to no avail.

Most certainly WiFi should be switchable in flight mode - even according to Samsung description:

Hi

Reset OneUI tuner if you are using it. I had  the same problem. Uninstall then reinstall the tuner.
