For some reason my Samsung Calendar has stopped alerting me at the preset times before an appointment.
When I look into Calendar App Settings, it shows Notifications Allowed with Sound, but when I go into Notification Categories, Ringtone Notifications is on but greyed out. When I open Ringtome Categories it is all greyed out and Sound is set to Silent. I assume this is why I do not get a sound Alert from the Calendar Event, but how do I change it when it is all greyed out and hence not accessible?

I'm also using a Fold 5, and that setting is also greyed out on my phone, but I don't have any issues with my calendar's notifications.

I assume you have alerts set up on your events.

You can also check the Default Alert Times setting in Calendar to see if you have default values for alerts on your events.1742516900997.jpg1742517040140.jpg

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes they have always worked untll yesterday, when the Camera Alerts failed to wake me for a hospital surgery appointment!! The default Alert is fine, set a 10 min and I always set countdown alerts at 1 day, 2 hours, 1 hour and 30 minutes (+ the 10 min default).
In this case one of the counting down alerts worked so I completely missed the appointment. All tests ones since have failed also, but it does ring if I go to the calendar and save ANY calendar setting. The latest missed one then rings, even though the alert time has long expired.

Is your Notification Category/Ringtone Notification also set to Silent?

Yes, it's also set to silent.

I just tested a new event on my phone, and it notified me 10 minutes before the event.1742523130199.jpg

Sorry, That should not have said "ONE of the counting down alerts worked" but NONE worked!

Hi @AlChes ,

Sorry to hear that this has happened for you, especially for something so important.

The only thing that seems out of the ordinary is the text at the bottom of your second screenshot.

I would start off by directing you to check the Notification pop-up settings on your phone through:
Settings > Notifications > Notifcation pop-up style > If set to "Brief", navigate to "Apps to show as brief" and ensure "Calendar" is toggled on

If it is toggled on and it still does not seem to be notifying you correctly, please send us an error report through the Samsung Members app so that we can investigate this issue further.

Warm regards,

Good catch! Mine is set to Detailed, so no need to enable individual apps.

Hope that's the only cause of the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it is not the cause of the problem. It was set to "detailed". I changed it to brief and made sure Calendar was toggled on - it was, and I then tested it again. None of the preset alerts worked, except when I saved the setting - it always rings when I save any calendar item, but not when it is supposed to.🙄

Yesterday, before posting here, I had a phone conversation with Support in Australia. They remote controlled the phone and could not see the cause, so they submitted an error report on my behalf. If you can't find that, can you please give some simple directions how to submit and official error report. They did it by remote control so I did not really see what they did.

I have so many appointments, most medical, that I have to get this working again. I don't understand why it suddenly stopped working, as I have not changed any settings since I got the phone over 12 months ago. If it is a setting, it could only have been changed accidentally.

Can I uninstall the calendar and install it again, and if I did, would I lose all the appointments?

Thank you for any help you can give.
Allan

Hey @AlChes ,

It seems as though when they were remote controlling your device, they have already sent in an error report for you.

Our Error Reports team will review it and provide further guidance for you once they have finished analysing it, so if you could just wait until then before uninstalling anything, that would be great.

Warm regards,
