Upgraded to a Z Fold 5. Been using Google Messages and the Google Message for Web app across multi PC's (work and personal) without issue for years on S20 & S21 Now will only connect if the Google Messages app is concurrently open on the Z Fold 5 as opposed to running in the background, the intent purpose of the use case. Have checked on multiple browsers, updated DNS to Google inc IPv6, and checked the app has perms for Wifi and Mobile Data and Data usage, tried both pairing options etc etc
Can't find a setting or control that may prevent it from connecting when running in the background, am receiving texts inc MMS so Google defs syncing with it or knows and the messages app is obviously updating itself ok in the background.
If you haven't done this already, you could try clearing the cache, particularly on the Z fold.. Settings, Apps, Messages, Storage. Beware this is likely to delete existing messages. You might get around that by backing up (Settings, Backup, use Google backup option) although the problem might come back when you Restore (found in backup settings)..
