Hi, i'd like to get your insights.

Got my ZFold3 back in November 2021 with the free 1 year Samsung Care+
Everything was good until the 18th month, Suddenly got a 2cm black hairline mark while charging, yes, while charging and it was hot,
I was skeptical at first thinking it would be alright, 2-3 weeks in, during these time of which it grew to a slim line, then across the folding line up till this day, the whole inner acreen is now just all black.
I checked, outside Samsung and the Service centers, the inner screen plays around
Php 25k-32k and the trade in value would be JUST at Php17.4k
Everything's fine except the inner screen.

One thing I can conclude is the heat from charging while folded was one of the reasons why the black line of death grew bigger to cover the entire inner screen.

Kinda pissed off the unit was almost Php100k (more with insurance) but the durability of the inner screen's worse than anything i've used before with Samsung.

What would you suggest I do with this Zfold3?
Have it repaired?
Trade it in as is for an S23Ultra?
Recycle the unit?
Switch to the Fruit brand?
Break the phone in half?
I would probably get notifications from the moderators apologizing for my bad experience with them at Samsung.

Cause honestly I can't wait to see what happens to the Zfold4 and Zfold5 and when they start getting their own black lines on their inner displays.

Good day! Based on your observations, possible that's the reason of your device to have pixel damage and due to battery overheat. Additional, have you checked before pluging your device to the electricity for re-charged that it has no running apps and if you follow the 1st procedure upon purchased your device, to have it recharged when device reached 20% battery to protect your device battery and have it good battery life span. Thank you.😉

I wonder if you have overheated your device a lot. It's best to only use phone for a very short time when charging with 25w and up since it produces higher heat. Though Samsung stops charging our device once it detects overheating.

Also, I understand that sometimes defects occur due to manufacturing. Honestly, whatever brand it may be, defects occurs as manufacturers can only produce 99% of well built products due to human nature. Still, when this rare issue happens to us, it's very sad

By the way, if you're too disappointed and want to switch to iphone 15. Beware because this latest iPhone is facing a scandal of overheating even having 48°c at 30 minutes of gaming.

Hopefully everything becomes well with you

Yeah I read that too, pretty weird for high end devices heating up while prior models don't usually heat up as bad as the new ones.
Appreciate the insights man!

Hey JMNable,

Apologies are the last thing you need now - what you need is a solution.

You could have it repaired and then trade it in, which would give you a deeper discount on a product.  I think that for your purposes an S23 Ultra would be a better fit and would probably serve you longer than your Fold3.

While we can't pinpoint the exact cause of the damage to your device from here, I imagine that ProCo must be right - heat must have caused the damage to the inner screen to get worse. If you still want to know the cause (and maybe get it repaired as well) you may visit a Samsung Service Center near you.

As Fold4 user, I share your sentiments. While the brand has made durability strides in the foldable phone market, foldables in general have a lot of moving parts hence it will still breakdown faster than the typical candy bar phone. With such expensive gadgets we want our phones to last long. Personally, I would say trade-in for an S23U especially now there's great deals. But as a fellow foldable user, I simply can't return to boring brick phones.

Just out of curiosity, have you also used your phone while charging?
