Hi everyone!
I have a Samsung Galaxy A14 5G. Every time there is a notification when the phone is locked, the phone doesn't light up even if it's locked. I have to tap the screen just to see if there is any message or any notification. I looked in the settings where to set it up but I cannot find it. I am a first time Samsung Galaxy user.
Hope that you can help me. Thank you!

Check the notification settings:
Open the Messages app and go to Settings > Notifications.
Make sure that the "Show as pop-up" and "Preview message" options are turned on
Open the Messages app and go to Settings > Notifications.
Make sure that the "Show as pop-up" and "Preview message" options are turned on

OK I think I got what you mean aha..
The quick solution might be the third-party app called Glimpse Notifications.
Samsung won't turn the screen on unless it's a full screen notification like incoming calls, alarms, full screen reminders and calendar events. It might have been years when they started doing this that I really can't recall exactly when was the last time I saw the phone screen light up for new short notifications. I thought it has always been the old LED indicator, then a pop-up and edge lighting.
Revisiting this post, it just occurred to me that there was this time when my classmate left his iPhone so near to me on the table where I was writing -- it would always catch my attention everytime he gets a notification and I get kinda tempted to read them. On Samsung, the screen will remain black but I think having an option to turn the screen on for quick notifications will nice too.

Hi,
I hope you're doing great. I haven't got a feedback about this for a while so I forgot about this already.
I thought I understood your post but i was wrong. As it turns out, it's probably because I got so used to the way Samsung handles non-full screen notifications when the screen is off on newer devices, that I forgot it wasn't doing that (except maybe just on Samsung Messages app). This may be a late reply to the OG post but I think it might be useful to it's new visitors.
I found some alternatives to this:
1. Use the brief notification pop-up style with edge lighting effects
2. Set the AOD to appear for new notifications
3. Use the edge lighting+ module in GoodLock
4. Use the third-party app called Glimpse Notifications
5. It's not related to the display, but you can also use the camera flash notification.
I hope this helps.
