Is it ok to charge my phone while I'm asleep and the protect battery is on ?

It's not ideal to charge your device even with protect battery on, even if most Samsung devices have a feature where they stop charge at full charge, it may damage your phone's battery causing to heat faster, degrade faster if it's still plugged in especially overnight. Protect Battery mode feature protects your battery and increase the life span of your battery because batteries degrade overtime

In other words, not recommend or not a good idea, it's better to practice unplugging your Samsung device right after it's fully charged or use Modes and Routines

The purpose of it is to stop your device from charging beyond a percentage you have set up. It is recommended if you're battery health savy.

I suggest try the battery protect. Once it reached 85% it will stop charging. But it's better to leave it unplug overnight.

The feature is there for a usage like that, when you're sleeping and you can't unplug it when it reaches a certain battery percentage. So yes, it's better that it is on, than not, when you care about your battery health.
