At first, I thought it was the camera lenses being far apart from each other that causes that sudden change in angle:

Then I figured it was the camera assist feature so I've disabled it:
I'm not saying it's not useful or that you have to do the same. I just want a smooth transition between cameras and I want it to focus on what I'm really pointing at. I think it defaults to focus on the nearest object and it makes it difficult for me if I just want to zoom in to the object or surface at the back like in the first video so I had to disable it.

It also adds saturation and attempts to focus everything, removing the bokeh:

I think it's useful for macro shots. I also remember back in Note20 Ultra that scanned documents tend to have a bokeh effect no matter how I zoom in or out. This might also be a solution to that. This feature was enabled by default and I was astonished by the camera the first time I took a photo of our water bill using both phones for the S23 Ultra immediately tracked and scanned the QR code on it when I'm not even trying, compared to the Note20 Ultra.

However, I just feel like I'm losing control over the shots sometimes. And I'm not a photographer, I mainly use the camera to see farther at work. So in case you're like me, you know where to find it.

Just wanted to clarify the setting that was disabled; Is this in the camera assistant option from within the default camera app? What setting was disabled specifically?

It appears automatically when it detects a separate object from the rest of the scene - like a fruit on a table, a flower in front of a window or these handles (in first reply).

Aah, from another post, Samsung calls it close focus enhancement. The handles example show your point the best. I can see it can be intrusive and suggest a different outcome from what you intend. At least, there's an option to disable.

It is the innovative technology of the device camera makers, the function enables you to focus the target easily. Expanded display, focus assist color display (in which the contours of the image are displayed in the selected color), and focus bar display are available in the viewfinder. The user can innovate like what you experience on auto focus and zooming features of your device. Even a first time user of the device with high quality device camera will appreciate using focus assist feature, amusing illustrations of objects while capturing.
