I have been having an issue where Android Auto locks up and disconnects from the head unit then reconnects and starts where it left off. App version hasn't changed since it worked last. Cleared cache and data and uninstalled updates and reinstalled. Same issue. Any ideas.

you could try to uninstall all data from the app

I experienced the same two weeks ago. The issue was with my phone cable. You might try change the cable to another original cable from Samsung.
