I had the same issue but worked when putting it on the charger idk if it has to do with battery saving

This is an option for power saving mode now. You can disable it by pressing the words Power Mode->Details->Medium Power saving mode and make sure that dark mode option is disabled. This will allow you to change from dark to light mode even when in power saving mode.
