Hi team,

A long-time advocate of Samsung, I love what you bring to the table with your products - buuuut one small thing really leaves me dumbfounded.

Having spent many hours trawling the web, I've found numerous responses from Samsung reps confirming you cannot select kilojoules instead of calories in the Samsung Health app (and similarly, have kilojoules displayed on your Galaxy Watch).

I'd really love to understand why this is not an option.

Kilojoules are Standard International (SI) units, as opposed to calories, (or rather kcal) which are not (and have not been for almost forty years). The whole of the world (with the exception of the USA) use SI units.

Samsung markets their (great) products globally, yet omits this simple conversion as a choice to cater for their global audience outside of the USA. Why is this? I'd really love to understand why.

I've found requests to Samsung on the web from 2015 requesting this option - and the response has always been "you can't", or even incorrectly, "kilojoules are specific to Australia."

Fitbit (and their health app) also didn't show kilojoules, up until around a year ago, when they finally updated - so it can be done!

Even Apple allows you to select kilojoules in their apps.

So please, for a customer who just spent a lot of money on an S22 ultra and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, please have the courtesy to advise why it is so difficult to update your software (Health app and watches) to allow the selection of kilojoules to justify why this hasn't been done - rather than simply replying with "you can't".

Or alternatively, and very hopefully, advise when your software will be updated 🙂

Hopefully yours,
Alex

I also want kilojoules as the unit for energy! Has there been any progress on this? It has been an issue for so long 😪

You posted this almost 8 months ago now and yet this has still NOT happened. Do you even care about Australian customers who have shelled out upwards of $2500 for a watch and phone? You take our money but then can't add the most basic of requests in

...and, as sadly expected, a very templated response via the Samsung Health app, not answering my question at all. Sorely disappointed.

Hi Laura & Alex

I've also registered it as a suggestion. On my version of Samsung Health, the option to find the section is slightly different;  3 dot menu, Settings, Help (right at the bottom).

If there are already 7-year-old suggestions, we can only expect disappointment hoping for something that is a simple procedure of multiplying everything by 4.184.

It must be a whole 5 minutes of some programmer's time.

If they do implement it, I hope they do a better job than FitBit did. Some of their charts have the most recent day the height of the calorie value, so about 1/4 as high as it should be, while the deeper charts multiply the values by 4.184 twice, to give enormous values.
