Cant install Smart Things on new Galaxy Tab A7?

I recently purchased a Tab A7 (SM-T220) but when I try to install smart things - Google Play says its not compatible.  Surely this is not true!  
I read on line it can be installed from Samsung Store, but when I tried, it also defaulted to Google store and said it was not compatible.  Please help!

Hi there, that's strange. Are you able to check if your device software is up-to-date? 

Settings > Software update > Download and install. 

After updating, restart your device and try to download it from the Galaxy Store again.

Yes software is up to date
And still no go. Any other thoughts?
