Does anyone know what the Android System Webview actually does and what it is for and is it important to keep it updated and if so, why. I have never kept mine updated because I don't know what it does.

Maybe try joining the Beta of it if you are not already Beta and if you are leave the Beta and see if it will update.

I just downloaded it in the Beta version of the app.

Clear your cache for the Google Play Store app and it should be able to update. You may or may not need to clear your data for the app as well.

What is it actually for? That's what I am trying to understand. I don't update it and never have in the past.

I am not trying to update it, I want to know what it does and what it is actually for. I've never known or kept it updated. should I? If I don't know what something does, I normally don't update it. Just like I don't use that AR thing so I don't update it either.

Android WebView is a system component powered by Chrome that allows Android apps to display web content.

I know what the description in the play store says about it, but, that doesn't tell me anything. I don't use Chrome Browser. I actually have it disabled also. So is it for the Chrome Browser?

it helps with the rendering of images and videos of web content. It isn't really about the chrome browser. It's for whatever applications you use to display web content.
