I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles with your device. Please note, when performing a software update or setting up the phone for the first time, it is likely that the phone will become warm due to the amount of data which is being downloaded. This is to be expected and will eventually calm down within 24-48 hours.

Do you multitask with your device such as calling whilst browsing or charging your device whilst using it? These processes take up CPU in the device and can cause the device to heat, which can be normal in some cases. However you should be able to minimize overheating by making some changes to the phone.

If the phone is overheating whilst being used then the first thing you should do is stop any apps that might be running in the background [recent applications (left navigation key/icon)>close all].

It is also a good idea to use device maintenance to optimize the phones settings [settings > device care >optimize now > done > battery/performance mode > storage > memory > device security].

As overheating can be due to active apps using the data connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi), you can also turn on data saver in the phones settings [settings > connections > data usage > data saver > toggle: on] and you can also allow unrestricted data usage for particular apps in this menu.

Please also refrain from using the phone whilst it is charging or leaving it exposed to external heat sources. To cool an overheating phone down, please temporarily remove any covers or cases that are protecting it – you can put these back on once temperature has reduced.

My S22 Ultra 256gb is doing same thing. Works fine for about 2 weeks (happened 3 times now latest today) took to optus last time and they dumbed down phone. Still not fixed.. Luckily didn't cancel appointment for 19th October so will put away S22 Ultra (can't rely on) used my wife's Flip 4 after today's melt down and same apps no issue also re purposed S21 Ultra and used tonight with no overheating same apps same charging cable.. Re stopping any apps running the phone does that when overheating. it's my work phone so need to use their app.. As mentioned not any issues on other two phones used

Interesting spoke too soon as S21 Ultra overheated today (not as bad as S22 as recovery was quicker) but have short listed possible cause.. Have a fast charging wireless phone holder (optus disabled fast wireless charging on S22 but didn't work) and also plug phone into car usb for Android auto. Believe phone should register if receiving too much charge or should choose one or the other (possible constant switching wireless /usb is causing overheating). Have put sim back into S22 Ultra and won't use Android auto (usb) for a while and see if still overheating

Hi @Palah, I am sorry to hear your device is having battery issues.

I suggest sending an error report within 2-3 minutes of the issue occurring for this to be investigated by our research and development team. Error reports assist with identifying any deviations in your device performance. Once analysed, our team will get back to you with a response to advise further steps.

To send an error report:
Samsung Members app > Get help > Error reports > select issue category > Describe issue and frequency > Tick ‘Send system log data’ > ‘Send’ in top right.
