Hi I'm having issues with the gmail app: I've just recently gotten a Flip (my first android phone, I've been an iphone person since the very first) and I noticed I wasnt getting any gmail notifications at all, all other usual apps seemed to be fine.

I did the searches for this topic and I've seemed to have gotten it to a point where it will notify me, but only if I've been recently using the phone, which is basically useless. I've been doing tests all day looking at MORE tutorials and I suspect it's a sleeping app issue now. One of the suggestions from a YT vid in 2020 was:

Settings > Device Care > Battery > App Power Management > Apps that wont be put to sleep > Add app > add Gmail

On my device that isnt exactly the pathway but I've found the equivalent, the hiccup I've come across is when I go to add app, the gmail app isnt even in the list.  I've tried uninstalling / installing, shutting down my device etc I'm at my wits end.

Can someone help? I'm not even sure that the above will solve the problem so ANY suggestions apart from the basic turn on notifications would be of help here.

Thanks!

I've asked about this Apps that won't go to sleep. It's so stupid but you need to 'Optimise Battery Usage' before you can make the app to the list.

Have you got the notifications turned on for the Gmail app

Long press on gmail.icon, it'll give you a pop-up menu, click on the i button on top (I've marked it on the pic)

From the new menu goto battery

That worked!

Doing that made the gmail app appear in the list, not sure about solving my notifications problem but I'll keep testing.

Thanks heaps Kombatsd (and yes that feels totally stupid, how would anyone know to do that?)

I hope the notifications will come thru. Make sure you allow battery and data to be switched on in the Gmail app.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. As an add-on to @Kombatsd's comment, you will need to enable 'Sync' settings for your email notifications to constantly flow through.

To do this, swipe down from the top of your screen to your Quick Panel settings and tap on 'Sync'.

The setting should turn blue to indicate it is on.
