It's great to see Samsung continuing to focus on security and privacy, especially now that we are well into the age of AI. This sort of thing should be emphasised even more.

We do miss at least one more piece in this overall ecosystem - a Samsung branded and operated cloud for storage of documents, photos, videos, etc. Ideally with the ability for users to choose which region/country the data resides in, guaranteeing sovereignty and access.

"For example, metadata from your most personal photos not only details the resolution and file format, but also shows the exact location where the image was taken. This personal metadata is more than just files — it’s information that is deeply connected to your daily life. And in the era of AI, the type of data used to provide personalized suggestions needs to be kept private."

Interesting that they use the above example when media in Gallery, including metadata is synced with Microsoft OneDrive, outside of the Samsung ecosystem and coverage of privacy and security policies. Keeping this data within the Samsung ecosystem and under a consistent set of controls would be preferable.

Agreed 🙏🔥

With news of rampant data breaches everywhere - security comes first 😊

Samsung did have a cloud backup that included photos, files and music data. But I think Google has been pushing its own Drive/Photos features, so Samsung Cloud was optimised to back up only specific settings of the phone now.

That was M$ and their cloud service (OneDrive) for photos & video 🥲

Yes, I remember they had their cloud service and then changed course. I think we are dealing with a very different landscape and expectations now though. Customers all over the world are looking to address data sovereignty and privacy related risks. And then there's AI of course. We are talking about it from a consumer standpoint here, but probably even more so in business contexts. There is a huge opportunity for Samsung here and they probably have all the pieces they need to do it:

Samsung SDS | Enterprise IT Solutions

The 'ecosystem' we often talk about simply won't be complete without a full featured cloud service. Security and privacy posture will be affected if a good chunk of data sits outside of Samsung's ecosystem. It's no surprise that Apple is making a big deal of Private Cloud Compute and iCloud working together to ensure end-to-end control.
