I want to set a default app for opening a .url file. I've read solutions for a Pixel smartphone that mention phone settings menu that is not available on A54 5G smartphone. The menu allows you to associate apps with file extensions. It would be the solution that solves my problem that I'm about to describe.

Are there any plans to add this menu to the Samsung UI?

I have an app installed that can create .url files and another app that can open .url files. Using the My Files app, it will not recognize that I have an app that can open the file. It just keeps telling me

"You don't have any apps that can open this type of file."

How is this determined?

I also tried selecting Share and the app starts and reports " Problem opening file ... Please give storage permissions" but there is no option in the app to set permissions. I checked in the phone's settings menu and the app has all permissions. There's no restrictions listed. So I don't know why it's getting this error message. The file is in path "/storage/emulated/.toggelis/"

I have tested this in another file manager and I can add a  ".url" file association  to open ".url"  with the app I have installed and it works correctly.

Has anyone encountered this kind of problem with file extensions and the My Files app - is it a bug?

Any ideas on a work around?

Shouldn't any browser be able to run it but I went and downloaded a wiki page to see for my self and yeah I guess it's not wanting to know also why you'd use my files that thing *** and doesn't allow you to get files use the legondy ZArchiver (Windarra but for Android) and yeah Google dose limit the default app they pre install that might explain it too

Not sure if this is helpful, I open the desired browser, then the url, then save the browser page as a desktop shortcut. In my phone where I haven't chosen a default pdf app I click on a pdf file and am offered multiple pdf apps and the option to use one as default. Just in case, using as an example a pdf, click and hold and see if you get several apps to open the file.
