Occasionally I have issues with the fingerprint scanner recognizing my fingerprints due to them being dirty or scratched from working & was wondering if you are limited to only adding 3 fingerprints to unlock the Galaxy A72, or is there someway to add more? I worked out how to remove & re-scan a fingerprint & can always unlock using the pass code but it would be good if I could add a few more fingerprints as backups.

If you can only use 3, maybe I should just include my pinky as one, it doesn't tend to get so dirty/scratched up from work...lol.

Hi @Stev0, unfortunately the A72 is currently limited to three fingers.

It is recommended to gently clean your phone screen and fingers, as any dirt on your fingertips may result in the scanner reading it incorrectly.

An alternative is to set up facial recognition as another biometric option if this happens often.

This doesn't make sense. 4 should be the minimum. When  the device is in hand, you use your thumbs to unlock. When on a counter or desk, you use index fingers. Of which I have 2. And 2 thumbs.

Consider right handed people, the majority of consumers; Right hand finger for when on regular surface (natural instinct for right handed people), but when working the phone sits on left of laptop because coffee and mouse sit on RHS of laptop for right handed people. So this necessitates crossing over from the RHS to unlock phone with index fingers because you cannot  use a thumb to unlock when seated at your desk and phone on desk.

As a left-handed user I also have problems with only being able to register 3 fingerprints. I use the Galaxy Tab Ultra and I come at the tablet from many angles to unlock it. It would bee MUCH easier to use the fingerprint reader if I could have 5 or even 6 different fingerprints registered.

MUCH!

STEV0 it looks like the latest software has stuffed the biometrics functionality. Maybe the developers will be able to fix what they get wrong? There were always only 3 fingerprints in the past. They worked, so maybe you will be able to enjoy the Galaxy once thy get it working again?
Keep my fingers crossed!

Okay, so limited to 3 fingerprints...thanks for that. Anyone else have problems scanning your fingerprints. I wouldn't call my fingers small but I had trouble "covering" the scanner properly each time to get it to register the fingerprint scan. Very tricky if using that little pinky I must say! Also, the instructions are pretty useless. It says you should move your finger around a little bit on the scan spot to scan more features but this doesn't work! You have to lift & replace your finger on the scanner each time in a slightly different spot to get the scanner to reach 100%. Whoever wrote the instruction prompts needs to wake the *&#$ up!

As of 2024, devices are still limited to 3 fingerprints. Does Samsung really listen to their customers?
