Hi Sammies,

I love everything about Samsung phones and watches, but unhappy with the usage durations of its batteries.

My enquiry is - charging the phone when batt is at 25% and charge to max 85% increase/extend the "Usage Durations" or "Lifespan" of the batteries. And also, should I go to Samsung service centres to replace a brand new battery whenever my phone last only 6 hours of normal usage and settings?

Anyone one kind enough to advise me on this? Thank you in advance!

Hi Bear9119, nice to see u posting again. Yes I agree that the only downside about Samsung devices is the battery usage duration.

Before S23 series, every Samsung flagship phone has a screen on time of about 6 to 7 hrs only. The processor doesn't work efficiently with the UI. Phones get hot easily and batteries drain quickly. So, 6 hours of normal usage is actually common and "normal" among all Samsung phones.

However, things have changed for the better. Last year, Z Fold 4 came with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, manufactured by TSMC, not Samsung foundry. Battery efficiency is 20% better than previous predecessor, Z Fold 3. There came this year's S23 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Made for Galaxy and it also improved the battery performance efficiency from S22 series by quite a lot too.

So, in future to come, we may see Samsung flagship phones with battery performance and efficiency. As of why I never mention mid range or low range, is because these ranges are performing better in battery aspect than the flagships and they are usually equipped with large battery capacities like 4800 mAh or 5000 mAh.

So good to see you and read your expert and detailed advices again, JP19! Hope all is good. So, I supposed the only way out is to buy the new S23 to replace my current Note 20 Ultra. I happened to read from somewhere and it says "if you're using Note 20, don't upgrade to S22 or S23 because the functions of Note 20 is better". Which is why I didn't upgrade. Now I should do so. May I know if I should buy the new S23 series now or wait for the launch of the next new top models? Did you hear of any news that a newer model is launching in the next few months?

Nice nice 😆 Thanks for asking! I am very good.. hope the same for u. 😇

If you feel the need to upgrade to the S23 Ultra (closest similarity to Note series), go ahead. As ur main concern is the battery duration usage, S23 Ultra will definitely be an upgrade. Should have no problem lasting a whole day of usage (8 to 9 hrs of SOT). It may last longer, if u are using lightly for that day.

Initially, the battery draining will be common, as the battery is still learning ur usage pattern. After a month of usage, the lifespan should get better.

For the upcoming S24 series next year, leaks are showing more towards the camera aspects, so if u are not so much into camera like me, then I feel that the change from S23 Ultra to S24 Ultra won't be significant.

And also to add on, all flagships and certain mid-tier/low-tier ranges from 2021 onwards can support up to 4 generations of major software updates and 5 years of security patch updates. E.g. the device ships with Android 13 OS. It can support Android 14, 15, 16 and 17. So the last OS will be Android 17. So technically, u can use ur phone for 4 years and u still have the latest Android version.

Hi,
U can try limit background usage limit in settings under battery. Turning off notification in settings for those that u do not expect a notification helps too.
Cheers!

Hi. May I know putting some apps in sleep or deep sleep mode helps to reduce daily battery usage?
What are the essential and must have apps that cannot and should not put into sleep mode? Otherwise, it would cause the entire phone to mulfuntion.
These are all that Injust read and learned.
I'm using a 2 year old Note 20 Ultra 5G. I'm also wondering if I should have my battery replaced with a new one.
Kindly advise... Cheers.

I've turned off most of the apps notification functions but it doesn't seems to prolong the battery usage by much.
