I have a Galaxy S8 plus and have a dreadful problem. I have always called my mother from an icon with her name sitting on my home screen. She is 95 and in an old people's home and I desperately need to be able to call her. Suddenly my phone will not call her. I get a half a ring and then it goes to line busy. I have taken my SIM card out and tried it in another phone and it won't work either. I have turned my phone off and on again I have checked that I haven't blocked her number and I have checked that she hasn't blocked me. I am desperate to solve this problem so that I can call her regularly. If anyone has any other ideas could they please please share them with me?

Hey there,

Does this happen when you call other people?

Because, if it's a half ring then goes to Line Busy - then it sounds like a phone line issue on your Mum's side.

No it doesn't happen when I call other people but other people can call my mum so it's not like it is a general situation with the phone it is only my number that it does this 2. Thank you so much for answering my question but I am still desperate!

Maybe delete the shortcut. Restart phone and call manually...
Worth a try.

If you dial the number directly from the phone book instead of the home screen icon, does it work?

Just trying to eliminate the icon as a cause for the problem.

Perhaps in this situation the best thing to do is for you / someone you know to check up on her in person to make sure she is ok (and to check her phone too)

Check whether "do not disturb" feature is accidentally activated on either of your phone .....hope this helps

Hi @GayleHolmes, a few of our Community members have already mentioned some good points.

As you've mentioned the issue only occurs with your mother's number, it sounds like the issue may be with her device.

Some things to check:

1. Is your number set to 'private' and has your mother enabled a setting to 'block private/unknown numbers'

To check if she has blocked unknown/private numbers:

Phone app > ⋮ > Settings > Block numbers > Toggle off 'block unknown/hidden numbers'.

To check if your number is set to private:

Phone app > ⋮ > Settings > Supplementary services > Show caller ID > Show number

2. Has your mother accidentally set up Call barring?

Phone app > ⋮ > Settings > Supplementary services > Call barring > Toggle OFF 'all incoming calls
