Hi Samsung and other proud owners for Samsung S21 Ultra

I recently noticed that my cloud storage was running out of space rather quickly. When I checked what was going on, I found out that for some reason, my screenshots and screen recording folders were also getting backed up to my cloud. I found it very odd as I have several android devices - OnePlus, Huawei and Xiaomi - where these folders were never inside DCIM folder. I have other Android 12 on other device and couple on Android 11 - I can confirm that its only Samsung S21 (One UI 4) is saving the screen recording and Screenshots into DCIM.

This is a problem.

Not only that - there is no way I can find settings to change the location of Screenshots and Screen recording within the Phone or App settings.

Note - I am a gaming enthusiast and I record contents for 3+ hours a day - the files are anywhere between 5GB to 15GB - I cannot afford these files to be backed up along with my usual Camera PIcs/Vids

I own the 512GB variant of S21 Ultra

Note 2 - I have given a thought to move Camera Storage outside DCIM folder and enable backup for that - unfortunately Camera app doesn't have the option to move the camera storage to a different Folder in the phone.

Request your earnest intervention for a quick resolution

Thanks

Thank you for submitting this case. I switched from Pixel 3XL about 4 weeks ago. This wasn't a problem with pixels. So it is not android problem but vendor specific update.

I download a lot of video clips, screenshot many stuff and all of them come to dcim. The TikTok videos download to dcim camera folder! This is dumb as fk. And we can't change it. How did the Samsung engineers think this was a great idea? I never bought apple because they put silly constraints like this.

If Samsung can't change it, I might end up uploading my own android. Got out of Samsung after 12 years back exactly for this reason, they put their 2 cents into android making the device unusable. All recent Pixels **bleep** why I bought S22 ultra.

Hi @mrn2020, I suggest sending this feedback through as an error report within 2-3 minutes of the issue occurring for this to be investigated. Error reports are sent to our team to identify any deviations in your device performance, once analysed, our team will get back to you with a response to advise further.

To send an error report:

Samsung Members > Get help > Error reports > select issue category > describe issue and frequency > Tick ‘send system log data’ > Send in top right.

I can't believe this setting has been removed from the OS. It's part of stock Android, which means someone within Samsung thought it a good idea to force where screenshots are stored. I definitely don't want screenshots in the DCIM folder where they get automatically backed up and take up storage space that I have to pay for.

It's unbelievable indifference of Samsung to their clients and products. This made-by-no-reason bug is more then one year old and they still didn't make any solution, any fix, except of their useless "send us report via our amazing app, so we would be able to officially ignore you ". I'm QA and my google photo storsge is dying due to tons of screenshots and records, and I can't stop it, cause Google photo automatically and without cancell option uploads things from DCIM folder. This bug and Samsung relation to clients/products are the readon, why I'll avoid these manufacturer, when I'll by new phone 😡

I've written to the support team, as described in this thread, and almost on the same day, Samsung sent me a required One UI update. So if someone is still stuck with such an issue, find corresponding recommendations from the Samsung team and write to the support, it could really help
P.S. Thank you, Samsung team for your quick help, you're amazing ^.^

I can't believe they fixed it, with the OneUI 5.1 update. Both for the screenshots and the screen records. I'm amazed! I hope the OneUI 5.1 update will trickle down to every Android 13/OneUI 5.0 device too!
