It is great that Samsung is now using the Google Messages app as the default messaging app on handsets and it is great that it has the OneUi theme, however there are a few things that Samsung needs to work with Google to address, as below

1) Google Messages does not have access to automatically change the data connection on dual sim phones to be able to automatically download MMS messages. You need to manually go into setting to change it, download the MMS and the go back into settings and change it back.

2) Google messages does not have permission to wake the device to display new message notifications, like the Samsung message app.

3) For some reason the Google Messages app wont download MMS when on wifi at all, meaning I have to turn off wifi to be able to download MMS messages regardless of what SIM card is used for data.

Hi @GCrane1982, thank you for the feedback in regards to Google Messages. For your third point, I would recommend sending an error report via our Samsung Members app so that our team can take a look into if this issue is with your device specifically. To do this, please see here: https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/tips-tricks/sending-error-reports/td-p/9617204

Your feedback will be passed on internally, however I would suggest reaching out to Google and the Messages team as well.

If you have questions about anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Hi I also have the problem of the 2 apps. Some times a message will come through the old Samsung message app and some through the New google message app. It is annoying. As you can't get rid of one or the other. And like you said one does somethings the other can't.

I noticed that too when I was using the Google message app. I run a dual sim on my Note 10+ and use the 2nd sim for mobile data. Messages or MMS won't download unless I switch the mobile data back to sim 1. Found it so frustrating that I just switched back to Samsung's message app.
