Messages app uses the default system alert sound. This means, when I receive an sms there is no district alert, just the same alert I receive for every other app. This means I rarely notice when I receive an sms.
Google says it can be done, UNLESS you're using a custom version from another manufacturer: Samsung.
So, has Samsung removed this important feature on their phones? Why?

For either Samsung or Google messages the steps should be the same.
1. Long press on either app then click on the little i icon in the top right corner.
2. Click on notifications, then notifications categories.
3. Then on incoming messages, then pick your sound.1759271427715.jpg1759271427728.jpg1759271427742.jpg1759271427756.jpg

I don't know what happened. I followed these instructions and set up individual alerts but now, the last step has disappeared. The option to set the sound has vanished. I got an alert today with the wrong sound. Confused I went back in and now the app sound notifoc5has vanished?

I suggest just going through all the steps again to make sure nothing has been toggled off accidentally. Also, make sure that under settings, notifications, advanced settings, Manage notification categories for each app is still toggled on.

Go to settings, then notifications then click on advanced settings and make sure Manage notification categories for each app is toggled on. 1759276335979.jpg1759276335995.jpg
