Is anyone else getting huge battery use by "Media picker" in the last couple of days? It's killing my battery and making the phone really slow. Even with no app use or data turned on it has huge CPU hours. Got the March update about a week before things went strange.

Battery health is good with Accubattery (100%). Gallery app and Files app get super sluggish too.

I've disabled Windows Link and have cleared the cache partition. No third party music players are installed.

Was Media picker the problem too, or generally fast battery use? For me it feels like something in the background has gone bad because I couldn't even see your message until I rebooted the phone.

I don't give location access to many apps at all, and google location history is turned off.

Try disabling it?
I have absolutely no clue about media picker taking so much battery. I know an app that can completely freeze an application permanently until you restart your phone or turn it off in the app settings. Just message me back or something if you want help

Media picker is a core library, and not something that can be disabled as it doesn't appear in the app list.

The cause for Media picker going rogue might have been a bad app update. I did a big uninstall session (preparing for a factory reset). 5% drop in 9hr, which is more like I'm used to.

So for other people with the problem this is what I tried:
- Disabled Link to Windows app
- Wiped cache partition
- Reset all settings
- Uninstalled any app I didn't really need to use.

Last step was the one that stopped Media picker showing in the battery use list

No idea which app it was that was causing it. If 8 was still getting the problem I'd look into it, but since the problem has gone away it looks like a bad app.
