Pull dropdown box down from top, click on gear wheel (settings), scroll down left panel until you find Apps, open, scroll down to Messages, look for Storage, open it, should see data and cache, on my tablet it then shows Clear data, Clear cache.in the bottom row, click on these to clear. Before doing this remember to google how to backup messages or you will lose them. You will have to Google this as I haven't done this recently and have appointments. A quick thing you could do fiirst, in the settings I have shown you you will also see Disable and Force Stop. If you are prepared to do one of these and not receive messages whilst you do it, you could wait to see whether this temporarily fixes the problem. To turn back on click your Messages icon. I am using Google Messenger but look before downloading because Play Store will advise whether the version you are looking at is suitable for your device.

Consider changing your messenger app (plenty on Play Store), making sure to back up your existing messages. Also consider deleting cache but, again, backup first.. Google best android messenger app. Also google the problem as you will get more solutions.

Thanks for the advice. Use normal SMS and Whats App. Don't know Google messenger app, will have a look. Regarding deleting the cache, do you mean specific to Messenger? If so, can you step me through it, please?
