Recently, i noticed that im having headaches after using my phone on an extended period of time. I tried to do some research and found out that the culprit is the Samsung OLED screens they use in their phone. It only has a PMW rating of 240Hz. Which basically can put a strain in the eyes and cause headaches or migraines.

I find it amusing that last year I saw an ad from samsung yt about their new monitor displays that doesnt flicker so it doesn't put strain to the eyes. But the bummer thing is that they can't apply it in their high-end phones.

Now, I don't think Samsung truly cares for their users.

Btw, iPhone 14 pm has twice the PMW rate of S23 series. Samsung phones have the worst PMW rate and could potentially cause headaches and migraines and could possibly ruin your eyes. **bleep**!

Try disabling Adaptive brightness. And set you brightness to a static level. Also, best to see a medical professional for your headaches. Reading something from the internet does not mean that is the cause of your current malady.

Tried it. Still its the same.
My headache only triggers when im using my phone for extended period but it's not the case when im using my tablet with lcd screen. Low PMW rating can cause eye strain and is a real problem that's why other phone manufacturers are bumping it up. Btw, my symptoms fades away the lesser time im using my phone. Now I only watch movies and yt videos using my tab. Definitely, i will include PMW rating as factor in buying future phones.

Hello AiBun,

We are sorry to hear about your eye discomfort whenever you are using your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra for an extended period of time. As you may be aware, there will be a series of trials to be followed in order to come to a conclusion.

In your case, a feeling that doesn't seem right has only recurred when you are using your device. And if it happens to me, then I will have the same tendency to suspect the phone has something to do with it.

But didn't you know that your Samsung Galaxy phone has an Eye Comfort shield? To help prevent eye strain, especially when you use your phone at night or in low-light settings, just turn on the blue light filter or Eye Comfort Shield to remove blue light from your phone's display. This limits your screen’s blue light. It's similar to the regular blue light filter except a special algorithm will adjust your screen's color depending on external factors.

You can enable them as follows:

1) via Quick Settings.

Using two fingers, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel. Navigate to and tap the Eye comfort shield icon. The icon will glow blue when it's enabled, and your screen's color will have a slightly yellow tint that will change over time.

Tap and hold the Eye comfort shield icon to adjust the settings.

2) via Display Settings.

Step 1. Head into your Settings > Display.

Step 2. Toggle on Eye Comfort Shield.

Adjust Eye Comfort Shield Settings.

You can select one between two options:

  • Adaptive: Automatically adjust your screen’s colors based on the time of day. You’ll see minor adjustments during the day and significantly warmer colors at night
  • Custom: Choose the color temperature that’s right for you and set a schedule for when to apply it.

Here are the options for Custom:

  • Set schedule: Choose from Always on to keep Eye Comfort Shield enabled at all times, Sunset to sunrise, or custom. With custom, you can choose the exact time you’d like Eye Comfort Shield to turn on and off.

  • Color temperature: Adjust the slider to change the screen’s color tone.
