This is my first under screen finger print scanner, coming from a Z Fold 5 where the finger print scanner was on the side (more traditional scanner).

This phone scans my finger half the time, and doesn't recognise it the rest of the time.

"Incorrect finger print"
"Press harder on scanner"
"Cover entire sensor"
"Please use pin biometric unlock disabled for 5 minutes"

This is a downgrade in reliability and speed from the Z Fold 5 side finger print scanner.

Edit: so it seems I'm not alone on this after reading online, seems to be slower than a S20 FE and not as consistent.

I'm so sorry to hear that it wasn't the screen protector causing the fingerprint issue. In that case, it's highly likely to be a hardware defect. I'd suggest having someone else try to register their fingerprint on your device. If they encounter the same problem, it's best to take it to the service center for further assistance.

I have no screen protector and it still ***.  My S10E with the side scanner was 100x better.  It worked just about every time.  This scanner was supposed to be an upgrade???

The trick is to go into the fingerprint settings, and use check added fingerprints function. Scan your fingerprint starting from the center and each time move your finger more and more off center, with each successful scan it will actually learn the edges of your fingerprint, and it will be much more reliable.

My fingerprint scans 90% reliably after doing this.

First of all, only use samsung screen protector. Also, as mentioned, go into the setting for setting up the fingerpint but make sure to get all angles of your finger when you have to get your finger scanned multiple time - as close to all scan angles you can. If you want and only need ~1 finger registered, do finger 2, finger 3 with the same finger as finger 1 to get more angles in. Hopefully this helps as under screen fingerprint scanner on the newer phones have impoved alot and works quite well.

I don't have a screen protector, and secondly i've been reading around and this seems to be slower than a S20 FE. So unfortunately I'm inclined to believe it's software related, with even 2 scans on a single finger it's not consistent and much slower than my previous Samsung phone.

Yeah read you don't have a screen protector but just added my thoughts for when you do get one from when I did my research for mine. The other, just giving thoughts to try help solve your issue asap. No worries if you are thinking software and are willing to wait for maybe a software update.

There's one option somewhere about increasing sensibility of the sensor, it works little bit better.

When I register my prints, as an example, I will use both thumbs when registering 1 fingerprint.

I've had no issues with it being slow 🤷
Having said that, I would prefer if Samsung used the side key scanner like the Flip and Fold devices.
My screen film always wears badly where the underscreen sensor is 😅

Thank you for sharing this trick, I tried registering 2 fingers under 1 fingerprint on my Tab S9 Ultra and it works great! It's a shame Samsung limits you to a maximum of 3 fingerprints on the Tab S9 Ultra and we have to resort to these kinds of workarounds.

The underscreen fingerprint sensor will never be as fast and reliable as the ones used on the Flip/Fold phones. Not sure why Samsung doesn’t use the same ones on the Ultra phones, considering it’s top of the line. Maybe one day they will, until then, unfortunately we have to cater to workarounds.
