Hi, just started using S24 ultra, I noticed Samsung is trying to ditch its much loved messaging app and forcing user to use Google messaging. Why! Why should ONE control everything! Don't want everything to be under one umbrella. Missing the pre Android era when each device manufacturer had their own unique OS. Thanks

It's happened with previous devices. They're not trying to ditch their apps, Google has been paying Samsung to promote their apps. So that's why the default Google apps are set as default in Samsung phones

My bad. Samsung music is also not installed. Google is becoming a monster. Thanks

Is it not? That's weird because I went to Vodafone to check the S24 out, and I remember seeing the Samsung music app installed!

Google doesn't have any music app at the moment except YouTube music.

You can manually switch between the Messages apps and set Samsung Messages as default.

Samsung Music can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store.

Yeah, I did that. But.....it seems to me that Samsung is following Google like obedient pupil. Why Samsung music was not installed but YT music was installed. I am using Samsung since 2012......A3, A5, A5 2015, S9, S10, S22 , now S24 Ultra. So, I experienced the gradual death of Samsung's own presence in its devices. Thanks

On your last point, agree that featuring Google Messages on the home screen as the default messaging app is not a good thing for Samsung identity and branding. It sends mixed messages to users and compromises the consistency of experience across OneUI.
I hope they continue to invest in Samsung Messages and make it the default again.
