This behaviour started yesterday. Messages notifications for my wife are not coming through.

From the three dots on the conversation page the notification sound shows but when I tap it I get the message ""to change the notification sound , first turn on notifications for this conversation"

From the three dots on the Messages page choosing Settings->Notifications->Notification categories  I have a list of 6 contacts under the title Conversations, they all belong to my Tabbed Conversation category Family. 5 of them show the normal range of options when I tap on them, but my wife's record only shows the message "Notifications from this category are blocked". (This is the same settings page as that accessed from the main Settings page.

I have no idea where else to look to unlock the conversation

I have a customised ringtone for calls from her number and that works fine

Have you checked your phone Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings > Conversations, and checked if your wife's contact is set as blocked there?

No, she now is not even showing under Conversations (all the other members defined as members of the Conversation Category "Family" are there)

Hmmm weird. Can't think of any solution, but maybe you can try reinstalling Google Messages (I assume that's where you are having issue). Or use Samsung Messages to see if you still encounter the same.

I had the same problem.

had a bell with a slash through it next to the conversation in the messages app

in the messages app

long press the conversation thread

at the bottom of the screen it should popup two options

Notifications    and   Delete

select the notifications option

Thank you so much.  I've been looking to fix this.  Your answer was the one that worked.  Seeing as it was my mum I wasn't getting notifications from, it's been annoying.  No idea how I did it in the first first, but fixing it has been a major pain.
