Can anyone tell me how to replicate what I did?

image

At first, I just did a drag-and-drop from stock gallery to the home screen like this:

Then it opened on another window and I was able to edit it (only one editor at a time)

But now, I can't do it anymore. Do you know how to do it?
Thanks.

I think you're using pop-up view!

1) Press the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines, usually on the lower left) to view all running apps.
2) Tap the app icon on top and wait for a drop-down to appear.
3) Tap "Open in pop-up view"

Enjoy!

I know how to view the gallery app as a pop-up.

What I did was open the gallery app, swiped from top corner to make it a pop-up window, tapped and held on a photo, dragged it from the gallery app in pop-up view, dropped it on the home screen.

To my surprise, it opened as a single photo (like in this pic) so I ended up with 2 "gallery apps" opened and I was able to edit the one I dropped on the home screen.
I wanted to do the same on other photos but I can't replicate what I did - it won't let me drop the photo on home screen anymore.Screenshot_20220413-123857_Gallery_31550_1649824737.jpg

This is a feature that used to be present and has since been disabled by samsung, from what I can tell. When I drag a photo to the border of gallery it tells me "Gallery is already open." And when using windowed dragging the image to my home screen does nothing. It's an under-rated feature that they removed with no apparent explanation in an update.

You can still open 2 images (only 2) via the my files app. It essentially opens 1 image through gallery app then another image through the my files app.
I wish they've improved it instead of removing it. I haven't seen anyone doing it or promoting it - i just discovered it by accident. Then tried it on pdfs and worked (the file should be opened with Samsung notes) - open my files app, then drag and drop pdfs - still works as of this writing.
