Does anyone know what the Android System Webview actually does and what it is for and is it important to keep it updated and if so, why. I have never kept mine updated because I don't know what it does.

Many Android web browsers use similar code in their builds, or web engines. This is many times based on the same codes as Google's Chrome browser. That code is usually called Chromium. There are various versions of it and it's constantly updated, along with other codes that help keep things running optimally. Android System webview is essential & part of such. I hope that helps.

I want to know what it is for. Not what the playstore description is. I know what it says in the Playstore about it but in regular terms and from a regular person perspective, I want to know what it does. I read the description of all the apps on the playstore that I use but a generic description that is vague tells me nothing. I don't use Chrome so is it only for Chrome Browser?

'Android System WebView' - is a Chrome powered component that allows Android devices to open web page scripts inside actual apps, instead of having to close the app and open the browser to view the web page.
