I have recently bought a samsung smart TV- Samsung55" Q80A 4K UHD QLED Smart TV

I have tried connecting multiple hard drives and now also a brand new samsung T5 SSD 500gb hard drive. The drive is recognised by the TV and then formatted. Immediately after this I can live pause. However if I wait 10mins despite a blue light being on on the hard drive to suggest it is drawing power the TV does not seem to let me pause a channel. The only way I can seem to get it to live pause is by pulling it out and reinserting then immediately pausing it. It's as if you can only pause after connecting the drive or when the TV accesses the drive such as when I open the drive via source in the TV menu, immediately go to live TV then it will pause but if I just have the TV on for say 10-15mins- I hit pause and nothing.

Once timeshift starts it works fine but it just seems to be it does not register the drive (despite being a new samsung drive and formatted), unless immediately done after connection or accessing the drive.

Is the only way to get this to work by connecting it via a powered USB hub?? Seems odd given as blue light on when connected so is still drawing power and I didn't think SSD drives went into sleep states etc

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi there, please see the below guide 'Using Timeshift' to activate Timeshift, and then try again.

Let me know how it goes!
