Hi all.
A few months back, frustrated with how Samsung insists on adjusting lighting when taking photos, I somehow managed to lock the brightness function on the screen which comes up when I tap the screen. The downside of this is that I now cannot force the camera to focus when I tap the screen. For the life of me, I cannot remember how I did it and so cannot remove it. I've reset the camera several times but still no change.
For the record, the camera is the one feature with all of my Samsung phones that has always been terrible, even in Pro mode. They refuse to reproduce colour accurately and forget ever trying to take pics of sunrises and sunsets. Can't do it. Samsung insists on adjusting the colours and light no matter what you do!

But anyway, can anyone help me get the focus function back please?

Cheers.

Hi @Allykat20172021, thanks for reaching out. For this, I have a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

1. Clearing the camera data.

Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear Data

In regards to colour, I would suggest going into your camera settings and checking if Scene optimiser is enabled. This feature uses AI to identify what you're taking photos of and enhance the colours slightly. E.g making plants greener or skies more blue.

2. Turn off Scene optimiser

Open Camera > Gear icon > Toggle off Scene optimiser

Let me know how this goes 😊

Hi there. Thank you so much for getting back to me. Unfortunately I've already tried both suggestions already for my two camera issues. I'm on my 6th Samsung (4 Galaxy's and 2 'A's) so I'm pretty much a gun on these phones. Lol.
I accidentally stumbled across the brightness lock (which I love) and if I could remember how I did it then I might be able to undo it to get the focus feature back. Better would be if Samsung could create an alternative to focusing when the brightness lock function has been activated. (Hint hint Samsung.. Lol).

Hmm that's strange. Are you able to focus by tapping and holding?

If possible, can you also take a screenshot from your camera with the brightness lock shown?

Your first suggestion doesn't work. Will try the second request. 😉

Whats the symbol down in the bottom right? Have you tried that. Also if you havent already, trytapping on the yellow circle.

The yellow circle locks in the brightness I select.

Thanks for the additional photo. From my understanding, the lower line is the brightness lock whereas the circle is the focus lock so the gestures and lock appear to be working.

Have you tried any in-app cameras? E.g other social platforms. If the focus is normal in other apps, it could be software causing the focus issues.

I would suggest testing the above, and sending us an Error Report via the Samsung Members app.

To do this, go to:

Samsung Members > Get Help > Error Report > Camera > Describe issue and frequency > tap Paperclip to attach examples of photos being out of focus > tick send log data > Send.

Let me know how it goes!
