Hello, I'm a content creator on tiktok and Instagram.

I have a Note 20 Ultra
I would like to know the differences between shooting on differnet aspect ratios and on video and photo.

Does each aspect ratio have different megapixels? And what is the best video resolution to record video for social media use.

As when I record at UHD 60fps i still experience some noise blur. Does it only work in bright areas?

Any advice/tips would be much appreciated.

 Thank you

Hi @Jyas, what an exciting job!

For photos, the best aspect ratio would be 3:4 and 3:4 [108mp].

If you plan to use the 108mp mode, I recommend taking the picture first, and then zooming in/cropping afterwards for the best resolution. Please note that 108mp photos will take up more storage than 3:4 which uses the standard 12mp camera.

The other aspect ratios are a crop and stretch of the 3:4 ratio. If you are making content for social media, the other aspect ratios such as full or 9:16 can be more convenient as they are already cropped to fit the phone screen.

As for videos, 9:16 or 9:16 [8k] would be the higher resolution, however, I don't think 8k is needed for social media because those platforms will compress the quality anyway. Filming in the 1:1 ratio would be better for platforms with square content as you don't need to rely on them being automatically cropped and potentially cropping out the section you want to keep.

Hello, thank you for the tips!

In regards to the camera recording, when I record it struggles to autofocus on my subject in low light,
I'm recording on UHD 60.

It also struggles sometimes during a well lit area.

Is there a solution for this?

Hi @Jyas, are you using the AE/AF lock while filming? This is usually triggered when you tap and hold an area during recording and will cause a yellow circle to lock the focus on-screen, as well as trigger the AE/AF icon to be shown in the top left corner.

You can tap the AE/AF to unlock it and see if that helps with the focus issues. The AE/AF should disappear once this is unlocked.

Let me know how it goes!

Video is horrible on Samsung! Jerky low quality and not smooth. They will never admit! Developers must have an eye sight of 15 fps not to notice what I noticed after one day of use! They need a codec that works! They need a compression that works. They must take responsibility and stop blamimg the third party apps. Can't be an issue with all apps!
