Samsung and other manufacturers are obligated by law to disable call recording functionality in Australia.

Australian Samsung devices don't have call recording due to Australian law.

I guess it was the easiest solution to avoid legal issues 🤷

Actually, that’s not true. In Queensland, under the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971, it is legal to record a phone conversation as long as you are a participant in the call. You don’t need to tell the other person you’re recording.

What is illegal is sharing or publishing that recording without consent. Also, using a device to secretly record a conversation you’re not a part of (like bugging a room) is against the law.

For phone calls, the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 makes it illegal to intercept communications, but that applies to things like wiretapping – not recording a call you’re part of.

So, recording your own phone calls is legal, but what you do with the recording matters.
