Hi! Anyone here been experiencing dramatic refresh rate drops/ lags on their Galaxys S21 Ultra/series? I've been experiencing the lags after updating to the January 2022 update (version G998BXXU4BULF).

It happens often, mostly happening when waking up the phone from the always on display (through fingerprint biometrics). It's like the phone is having a hard time to re-adapt back to 120hz after opening the screen. I've checked, and I confirm, that my Motion smoothness setting is always on Adaptive mode, so I assume that display would be adapting between </=120Hz.

I've also phoned Samsung customer service and they've said that the best thing to do right now is to wait for a week or so and check of the problem still exists. If so, they advised to bring the phone to a service center.

Super lag after the update. Sometimes I will type something and it will take a few seconds for the words to show up. Also noticed the freezing when using the camera of my phone.

Hoping that Samsung realeases an update the soonest to answer all these lag issues!! I think that the update really have bugs that affected majority of the users.

It's super annoying knowing this is a flagship phone. Been thinking of switching to Apple.

In addition to this, the adaptive refresh rate is not working, it stays 120 even tho I stopped scrolling/touching the screen

How would you know if the display stays at 120 Hz, even if the setting is on Adaptive?

via the developer options, "show refresh rate"

The culprit here might be the AOD feature .. disabling it works on mine and to some other users who had also experienced it

Thanks for the tip! Seems to work for me. I'll try a few more days to see if it works long term or at least until Samsung fix this. It is really annoying.and to say that the screen is lagging even with the display at 60hz.

I'm a big fan of Samsung and been using for a long time but the bugs that the s21 ultra had since the release are too important. A pricey device with issues that are not acceptable.

This might be the drop that broke the camel's back. I hate to say that but will look into other brands that are faster in fixing such annoying issues.

I have a very similar problem and I've done everything including reset and restore my phone like 3 times now, and keeps getting the same results

Always on display has always been disabled ever since and been using powersaver mode most of the time but I still experience the same lag issue
