Hi Team

I have a Galaxy S23U and my call/phone settings have always been 'Hide Own Number - On' because of a violent ex I'm trying to disappear from. But a friend couldn't find their phone last night, so I called it, hoping to use sound to find it - we did. But i noticed that my number still shows up. I only use the regular built in (telephony) calling suite - the Samsung phone app - but my number and my Google account name show up. I haven't linked my google account to any of my Samsung stuff (in case that helps to diagnose what's happening).

Then today I realised that when I called the Dr & the other place i had to call, they both could see my number as well, because they asked if the number I'm calling from is best to call me back on.

Can anyone help me change it to actually not show my number or at the very least, not to show what it assumes is my name (my google account name). This is really upsetting, because people for all sorts of reasons don't want to share certain details, for me, it happens to be my personal safety.

Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to read through and diagnose or treat my issue. It's appreciated even if it doesn't remedy the issue.

Thanks Team

Hi @Girlgerms,

Sorry to hear that you've experienced this!

Could you please check these settings:
Phone > ⋮ (More options) > Settings > Supplementary services > Show your caller ID > Set as desired ("Never")

If those settings are already set on your device, we would have to guide you to contact your network operator.

Please let us know if you need some more assistance regarding this matter.

Warm regards,

Thank you so much for your help.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked, because I purposely set it that way when I set the phone up. But it's definitely set to 'never'.
I'm starting to wonder if it's something to do with the number being the emergency contact number for my google account. Because the number showing with my google account name is making me think it's got something tondo with a google setting over riding all else, if you get me (which if it is the case is crazy, because phone hard settings should over ride everything). Thank you so much for you help though 👌🏻🥰1748415875486.jpg

Hi @Girlgerms,

Thank you for checking that for me!

It's very weird that it is doing that, but I can also recommend that you restart your device and make sure that your software is up to date.

Also, you can try making a call from your phone while on different network settings (e.g. WiFi and then your cellular network) to see if switching between network settings affects whether your caller ID shows or not. If you are using WiFi calling, it could interfere with your device's caller ID settings.

Like mentioned before, if the above steps do not help in making sure that your caller ID does not show, we would highly recommend that you contact your service provider for assistance.

Warm regards,

Thank you again s_amsungsonny, you've been awesome. I'd actually tried all those things before posting, when I was beginning to wonder if it's something related having the same number attached to my Google account. But I like that my brain thought the same things cos at least it means it (my brain 🧠) is thinking alike the actual smart people 🥰

I think I'm going to have to head into an Optus shop and get them to have a look to see what could be overriding the 'do not show own number' command. I must admit, it's very strange. Thank you again s_amsungsonny, your help is greatly appreciated 🥰

Hey @Girlgerms,

Sorry we couldn't find a resolution together!!

I hope that your service provider is able to provide a better explanation as to why this might be happening - please keep us updated. :)
