I have new Samsung A52s somehow I have managed to turn off notifications (the numbers that show up on the icons) so you know you have a message etc

Go into Settings, and scroll down and select Home Screen.
Then look for App icon badges.

Is there anything else that might work?

Is this issue affecting all apps, or just the Messages app?

Everything that used to show numbers dont anymore. Facebook messages Instagram etc

You haven't turned on Do not disturb mode, have you?

Do you get sound notifications?

I had a look it is not blue in the drop down

No just sent myself an email and message no sounds

Last 2 things I can suggest is:
Go back into Settings/Home Screen and tap on App icon badges.

Where is says on, try toggling it off, then back on.

Failing that, I would suggest sending an error report via the Members App.
