After the update from 2 days ago, the phone heats up after about 5 to 10 minutes of use and is very hot to touch. I've already lodged an error report after the very helpful live chat agent Geraldine wasn't able to resolve.
I've put the phone on power saving mode, put apps to sleep, turned off 5G and NFC for now. It still heats up but is better than before.
Not the best start to 2022...!

You may have to do a factory reset on your device.
Make sure to back-up your data before you do.
If that doesn't work you may have to get it looked at @J0yy0

Definitely agree with @Jodsta.
It's a pain, but a factory reset can often help.

Thank you @jodsta and @dolgogi. That will be my fallback as I suspect the software download will end up with the same version? Samsung are supposed to respond with 48 hours of lodging the ticket.
Because there's no way to rollback the software version

A factory reset will leave the current software in place, but resets it to the "out of the box" status.
So you'll have to install all your apps etc again.

There won't be any software download, other than the standard factory app updates you normally get when setting up a new device.

I am having the same issue. I have contacted samsung support so many times. My phone gets so hot on the top left and is always warm on the back. This is the last samsung device I will ever own.

I did what Jodsta suggested and factory resetted the phone but it did not fix my issue. It's still overheating despite being on power saver mode, NFC and 5G turned off.
