How does one disable the Samsung S8 Galaxy Note Tab Ultra’s camera’s need to access the microphone and location to take a simple picture?

I want to take a photo of a lecturer’s whiteboard workings and do not see why there is a need to assign/record my photo’s geolocation and microphone data information.

You should be able to find it by going to Settings, scroll down to Apps, scroll to Camera. Open and see Permissions and make it not allowed. Note this will turn it off for all caera options including video. I am using S23 FE so it may be different on yiours.

I have already disabled all permissions bar the “Notifications”, I cannot disable that (greyed out).

Thank you but that suggestion does not resolve the issue.

I can't suggest anything more but check if there is anything useful in the links from the following Google search "s8 note turn of microphone and location in camera".
There are two approaches, one to turn off location and microphone completely, the other to do this only in the camera settings. Perhaps one of the settings chosen already is causing the greyout. More simply the greyout could be caused because a photo is instantaneous so can't use the microphone anyway. See what happens when you look at video settings. For location see if you can turn off location for the whole phone (unlikely) or just the specific location. See if looking at location gives you a sub-menu to restrict camera location. If it is important when you export a photo some export software allows you to strip all metadata but usually still has some basic metadata as at the time of import to the new version e.g. new creation time. Actually location is, I think, included under Google setting (go to Settings, Google).

Part of my suggestion was to enable them again and then disable from within camera before going back to total disable. Also check Permissions, Apps and remove permission.

Just checking, I think you can act on permissions in two places, one under Permissions, find the app, the other by going to Settings, scroll to Apps, then Camera, then lookat the options, one lists permissions again. I think they do the same thing but worth checking.

Thanks Troubadour,

You are correct that both options effectively do the same thing (both methods result in going to the same settings).

I am beginning to get frustrated with the lack of functionality of the Samsung Tablets.

Consumers need to be able to have a fully functional tablet and not one that appears to be operating software that is severely limited.

Samsungs main competitor has far more advanced functionality on mobile phone devices than the latest Samsung Tablets and consumers should be made aware of this before paying in excess of $2000 AUD for a product that has software bugs (remnants of geometric objects superimposed on pdf files that can’t be selected or removed), no dashed line option, no ruler option to represent axis and dashed lines (as a work around to align manual dashes for lines),  application settings that can’t be disabled, and the list goes on!

As a consumer of a newly purchased device, if a device does not operate as it needs to with the simplest of functional commands, it does not bode well for consumer confidence in device functionality irrespective of the processor capability and screen size.

1. I got a few more ideas from the links I found in the following Google search "how to draw lines so aligned in samsung notes".
2. Not much use to you but I used to use Adobe Acrobat Pro 12 on my windows desktop. I think it allowed editing out of extraneous objects. Can't remember if it was an eraser function. To be fair, most pdf editors won't have this feature.
3. Difficult to respond on comparative functionality. When decades ago I bought the occasional HP device for, say, financial features, one always had to check against the list of functions supplied by your lecturer and buy something else if necessary. If by main competitor you mean Apple, or even an android device, the list of apps in Play Store are so humongous that it is infinitely superior to Apple. Even outside Play Store if you are prepared to allow non Play Store apps there are more possibilities, some of which will meet some of your requirements but it is annoying that one has to do the extra work.
4. Not needing the functions you need I don't feel qualified to comment further.

Okay, so the solution is to use a third-party pdf application and not Samsung’s Notes app?

If so, that is an easy answer provided the respective applications can use their native commands but also allow for the integration of S-Pen features.

Fair comment. It may be possible already or on its way. A quick Google after you posted this indicated some compatability with air gestures but I haven't explored further
I Googled : integrate s pen features with other apps
I also Googled "using s pen in microsoft word" with further suggestions.
Not great solutions but so much more versatile than Apple 😃
I think I will stop here as so much depends on your specific needs, note the full verion of Microsoft Word includes a draw function although I very much doubt that it is available in android. Another useless suggestion for you but remoting into a desktop might have benefits
