I cannot belive that this is the case... Why can't Samsung's Backup and Restore software for Galaxy Wear actually do a full backup and restore?
I just moved to a new handset (S22 Ultra) and my Galaxy Watch 4 has no lost almost all the customisations that I had spent months getting just right.
There's at least two options here:

1. Don't require the watch to be reset to move to a new phone. I should just be able to unpair the watch, then pair it with a new phone handset. There shouldn't be a need to reset my watch back to factory defaults.

2. If you can't make the first option work (and I genuinely cannot see any reason why), the next best thing would be to actually backup all the data from the watch and be able to restore all the data back after pairing to a new phone. All the data includes all the apps you have installed and their settings.

Even the inbuilt workout app lost the dat when I did a restore. The default workoput app shows walking, runningand cycling as the default shortcuts. I had changed mine. This is a preloaded app and the backup and restore couldn't even do this.

The loss of data is unacepptable and is not fit for purpose. People change phones all the time for a variety of reasons, and shouldn't need to factory reset their phone and lose all their customistaions.

Hey @scH4MMER

Thanks for reaching out. I suggest sending an error report within 2-3 minutes of the issue occurring for this to be investigated by our research and development team. Error reports assist with identifying any deviations in your device performance. Once analysed, our team will get back to you with a response to advise further steps.

To send an error report for a wearable, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Galaxy Wearables app > click on the device desired on the side menu
  2. In the side menu, tap Contact us > Error reports (in the Get help section)
  3. Fill in details and the frequency of the issue that you have with the wearable.
  4. Click send.

Kind Regards,

Glad I found this thread, I thought I was fully crazy... Turns out , it's not me that is crazy, its the fact that we still can not back up Samsung watches. Just WOW

Wearables

Same here, backed up and reset watch , now cannot restore.

The money Samsung charge for their devices, surely warrants some kind of reliable backend.

Not to mention sensors not functioning just out of warranty.

Seriously awful service/software

As with others here ... WT# Samsung? Backup watch, restore watch - EVERYTHING completely messed up. No watchfaces (I mean NONE - emergency calls and digital watch face, nothing restored). Apps lost, everything completely lost. Restore says it is restoring things but I get a blank (even less than delivered new) watch.

For those coming here who have not yet wiped their watch and are reasonably technical - get ADB AppControl - it can backup and restore whatever files you want (and can clean all the bloatware). Yes it's low-level, not supported/endorsed by Samsung - but it can save you this brain damage (just wish I'd remembered before trying to connect my watch to a new phone - sigh).

2023 Samsung - perhaps it's time to step up to a REAL backup and restore capability.

Oh wow, I just noticed the text in restore dialog, it references PRELOADED watchfaces and apps - what now? So basically it's not even trying to restore the watch you had - just the they configured for you when you bought it. This might well be my first and last GW just because Samsung clearly does not care about the user experience.
