I recently updated to One UI 3.1 on my Galaxy S10+ and noticed I no longer have the chat option in Samsung Messages. It was working previously using Telstra's RCS service. I've done a factory reset and restart, also installed Google Messages which use to be a trick to activate the option in Samsung Messages. My preferred messaging app is Samsung's stock app. Anyone had this issue and know how to fix it?

Hi to change the time it should be in Settings under General Management then you should be able to see the option to change the date and time

Thanks Laura. I've seen some comments on Reddit saying they have received a message to accept Google RCS within Samsung messaging but I'm a bit sceptical if this is actually being rolled out

Hi again Jez70,

This issue has been reported to Google, but it is difficult to fix or change on Samsung's side. When Google resolves issue, we will update apk to this model immediately.

Please check again after taking each of the below steps.

1. Settings > Biometrics and security > Other security settings > Device admin apps > Find My Device > disable

2. Settings > Apps > Google play services > More option > Uninstall updates

3. Settings > Google > Select question mark in upper right corner (or more > Help & feedback) > more > View in Google Play Store > Update
(or Chrome > open google.com > Search 'Play Services' > Select 'Play Services' update page > Install

4. Settings> Application > Google Play Services > Storage > Manage Storage > Clear cache, clear all data

5. Settings > Biometrics and security > Other security settings > Device admin apps > Find My Device > enable

6. Reboot

These steps are temporary solutions until an update is released. Let me know if any of these help!

Thanks. Just to clarify is this to get the chat function back in Samsung Messaging? I downloaded Google Messaging and the chat function works for the app but not in the Samsung app

Hi Jez70, yes this is regarding Samsung Messages. It currently looks like the result of an update on Google Play Services which is why it was forwarded to them. Hopefully an update comes soon!

Hi I tried the solution suggested but it didn't work. Will wait for the update. Cheers Jeremy

Google got fed up with carriers not implementing RCS.
In Australia, both Telstra & Optus pledged to roll out RCS, but only Telstra did it, and it was crippled anyway, (so I'm told).

In April 2020, Samsung announced it would implement Googles universal RCS profile in the Samsung Messages app, and finally started to roll an update out in December 2020 to some across Europe and America.

But Australia, as is often the case didn't get it.
Currently it only works using Googles own Messages app, which I personally dislike.
