Hi, does anyone use samsung galaxy watch 4 LTE version..it has e-sim and can work as standalone watch without smartphone around. I was hoping to get this for my son as 12th birthday present..so he can call me if needed as he grows his independence...but I am not prepared to get him a phone yet..

But there is one thing about the watch I am not sure about..would it have separate phone number or same as my phone number (parent phone)...does it need to be paired to a phone at all?

If needs to be paired to my phone as the main phone..then how can the watch call on its own phone number? By the way I use Samsung galaxy s20 phone.

Secondly what happens to my own galaxy watch 3 that I wear.. I can still pair it with my phone considering two watches have different pairing methods Bluetooth and lte..

Thanks in advance.

You probably have to get a new number for the watch.

Hi @pureherbal,

The LTE watch will still need a phone paired, as it is connected as an extension of an existing mobile plan. e.g When someone rings your phone number, both the watch and phone will ring as they are connected via the same plan.

We also have a range of entry levels phones under the A series, if you would like to take a look:

You mean that if he has to call me..he can't do that from the watch as that watch is paired to my phone..is that right? Would there be another mediums to make the call..other than phone call..would the watch have its own internet if I get him a sim?

Exactly. It needs to be linked to a mobile number.
You couldn't link it to yours, otherwise your Watch3 would lose that functionality, and he would also receive yours calls and texts.

Honestly, you'd be better of getting him a budget mobile phone anyway, as it would be cheaper.

Hi @pureherbal, unfortunately not. The LTE watch acts more like an extension of your phone and uses an e-SIM, where you are able to leave the paired phone at home, and continue to receive calls and notifications via the watch.

Can I leave my mobile @ home, but still use 'Samsung Smart Watch 4 Bluetooth' to buy something at the supermarket or cafe, and the final payment is made, thereafter pairing with the phone, again?

You can make up to 10 payments, before you'll need to sync with your phone again.
