Hello,

I did some research before asking this. I consider myself to be rather technically inclined, however this is I cannot find the answer to anywhere, and it's really impacting day to day usage of this device.

I am using Gboard, due to the spelling and voice recognition capability, and the fact that the Google Assistant is trained to my voice. I have both Samsung and Google products in my home, including a TV, two speakers and a hub.

On both my Samsung s8, and my Samsung S10 Plus, I am able to change default keyboard to Gboard without issue. I am also able to set it so it is always the main keyboard I will use, outside a voice to text. However, when trying to use Gboard spelling correction, I can make the change without a problem. But without implementation, the phone reverts back to Samsung on its own, at the very least after a reboot, but mostly if the phone is on it will only take a few hours and it will automatically revert back. I currently have the Samsung keyboard not enabled, no permissions, no data usage no battery optimization, battery is actually restricted, and also I have it set to Gboard spelling auto correct.

I have cleared the cache and cleared the data on both keyboards on many occasions, and then revoked permissions from the default Samsung keyboard again, and disabled every setting including allowed to change system settings, allowed to install etc everything.

The reverting of spelling correction continuously goes back to Samsung no matter what I've tried. I don't want to root the phone in order to disable it permanently. It's an option, but I would rather not do it, as I like to retain the device in the current status it came in, does not matter if the warranty is up or not.

I'm not sure if anyone can help with this or not but I thought I would just ask maybe I'm missing something. Thank you,

Omar

Hi Omar, You could change the default keyboard by going into Settings app >>  Language and input >> On-screen keyboard >> tap "Default keyboard" >> Now please select your desired keyboard.

Hi Keegan,

I appreciate your response in the swiftness of it. however if you look at the question above it I had mentioned that I was able to access the keyboard without an issue. The problem is with the spell check always reverting back without consent to Samsung spell check.

for sure I will certainly do that. I think that the service for the Samsung keyboard has a $KeepAlive or $PersistentService flag on it or something in UI. But Ill ask and get back with an answer.

Its very strange because even can go and disable the keyboard entirely in the settings and then clear the data and disable again, when you go back after a certain amount of time, the keyboard is active again but disabled. And viewable activity and battery usage In the battery tracker.

Figured it out. GBoard spell check has to be set as the default spell checker in the secure folder and the normal facing OS to remain enabled.

I would do that but I can't accept my own post as the solution. I figured out by trial and error.
