OnePlus has officially announced that they will develop Android P for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. For the record, the OP3 was launched in June 2016 with a Snapdragon 820 (like the USA S7) and Android Marshmallow.

So, knowing that OnePlus is a company with much less resources and considering the popularity of the S7, which is still the most popular Canadian Android device and the worldwide popularity of the device, to both of which the OnePlus 3 and 3T doesn't come anywhere near even combined, will Samsung reserve the same treatment to their last 16:9 masterpiece?

It's again considering the fact that OnePlus doesn't have something near Samsung's resources for supporting their devices that long. Also considering the S7's characteristics such as the higher price, a more powerful Exynos 8890, a gorgeous and higher resolution Super AMOLED screen, award winning camera, water resistance, just being a multi-award-winning phone, including "Best Mobile Phone of 2016" by the MWC... No reasons that a superior device gets lower support.

I 100% agree, no one should try to defend Samsung for this, the Galaxy S6 should get Oreo AND Android P, that would make up for it.

I really hope Samsung continues supporting the S7. I was so disappointed when the rumours about the S6 getting Oreo turned out to be false.

Android as a whole needs to work on supporting devices longer than 2 years and I hope Samsung jumps on board sooner rather than later.

I love how this post wasn't even acknowledged by Samsung mods or any officials. It's like they couldn't care less!

Perhaps other members should also publish this news and demand the same treatment. That they can't ignore.

Also Samsung publishes their kernels of all their phones on their Open Source software platform (don't remember the link but I saw it). They even release updated kernels for each OS upgrade.

Yeah, perhaps.

Even though Samsung actually releases Exynos Kernels after few months, what happens is there is no good development from the developers. As Snapdragon is used on almost all android flagships, all devs are focused on that. So basically that kernel is useless as major developers ain't interested with Exynos. Same thing with Kirin. And MediaTek is worst as they don't even release Kernels.

Forget MediaTek. Ya lucky if they give you a real security patch

But the Exynos situation might change as I read on GSMArena Samsung was making deals with OEMs so they use Exynos processors and deals will be announced in H2 2018, so there's hope if their Exynos goes widespread

yeah. Even if they do,we won't have any benefit as we're already scr*wed. Our bootloader is and will be locked.
I think as smartphone development is at peak, they're trying to push people to buy new phones from software point of view. Kinda like Apple, but Apple slows down your phone to push you.
Like forreal, imagine if you could get android p, q and so forth and all new android features in your S7 just by doing some tweaks(unlocking bootloader, flashing new roms). Would you ever buy a new phone in next 3 or 4 years? Obviously not! Nobody really 'needs' more useless gimmicky cameras that you'll never use, more screen, more this and that. It's basically just sales tactic.

Hehe, Mediatek missed over 9 security patches 🤣 thank goodness Samsung is on par with Google, not with Huawei, LG or Moto lol.
