I am owner of S21 Ultra and I am struggling with quality of the main camera output. I made several trips recently and took plenty of photos, mostly having heaps of light in the nature during the days.

I was very disappointed when I checked the pictures on my laptop. Many photos are crazily over-sharpened, creating all kinds of weird artifacts in the grass, trees and so on. Also the amount of noise is horrible; even when I take a picture of some flat surface during the day I can immediately see noise everywhere, especially around edges and corners.

After this I tried to take pictures with the Expert Raw app; here the problem with over-sharpening and high amount of noise seems to be gone (so it is just a sw issue of the default photo app probably??) but two other really annoying issues are present:

- it always takes photos both in raw and jpeg. Why there is no selection between raw/jpeg/both?

- all the pictures are oversaturated and there is no way how to decrease saturation/contrast although it's called "Expert" app.

I am wondering what are other people using as a photo app? Some third party one? And how on earth is it possible that Samsung has such great hw to take pictures and so crappy sw to process it? Why there isn't some more settings for the output quality?

Hi @tomaskubec
You could try resetting the camera app from the camera settings menu.
You can also try the following:
Press and hold the Camera app icon, then tap the (i) in the top right.
From the window that opens, scroll down to Storage and tap it, then tap on Clear Cache.

As for Expert RAW, one of app team members posted in Korea that an update, which should start rolling out in September, will add the ability to choose which format is saved when using the app, either RAW, Jpeg or both (as It currently does).

When editing/working with RAW, you need to use apps that can handle them for best results, such as Lightroom for Samsung:
https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.adobe.lrmobile

Or Snapseed:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niksoftware.snapseed

Hope this helps.

thanks, I tried to clear the cache without any effect. Understood about the expertRAW, but yeah that doesn't really solve the issue with the quality in the original app. And as I said, the ones from expertRAW are less noisy / oversharpened but also much more oversaturated, so in the end photos from both apps are basically useless without further processing.

Hi @tomaskubec, thanks for sharing your feedback. I've passed this on internally to the relevant department.

@Dolgogi mentions some steps below you can try to see if this improves your camera performance.

If this does not work, I also suggest sending an error report within 2-3 minutes of the issue occurring for this to be investigated by our research and development team. Error reports assist with identifying any deviations in your device performance. Once analysed, our team will get back to you with a response to advise further steps.

To send an error report:
Samsung Members app > Get help > Error reports > select issue category > Describe issue and frequency > Tick ‘Send system log data’ > ‘Send’ in top right.

Thanks. I tried to clear the cache but without any effect. I've sent the error report too, let's see what it reveals.

Just uploaded few wasted pictures. You can see how it got damaged by the postprocessing engine. How are these pictures good for anything?

By the way it seems many users are actually complaining about this:
