Have to wrap my phone in a wet towel to make it charge if I am running YouTube in the background. Battery temps report around 45 degrees. Surface temp measures same. Phone will stop charging entirely and shut down multi window.

When not charged, the app is pulling total system power to over 10 watts.

When force close YouTube, clear cache for it, the phone stops being a volcano.

I'm concerned it is going to explode the battery if things get worse.

I am begging you Samsung, get ahold of your Google contacts and ask them to look at why the YouTube app is so poorly optimized.

Hi ANickname,

We’re really sorry to hear about the extreme overheating and charging issues you're experiencing with your S25 Ultra.

Please try the following steps, which may help reduce the issue:

  • Update YouTube via the Play Store to ensure you're on the latest version.

  • Clear YouTube’s cache: Go to Settings > Apps > YouTube > Storage > Clear cache.

  • Disable Picture-in-Picture: Settings > Apps > YouTube > Picture-in-picture > Off.

  • Avoid background playback while charging, if possible.

We also recommend submitting reports to both Samsung and Google:

  • Samsung Members app: Support > Error reports > Battery or App issue

  • YouTube app: Help & feedback > Send feedback (include relevant battery stats)

This does appear to be an optimization issue on the app side, but your feedback is essential for us to escalate it properly to Google. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

In the meantime, please take care, and feel free to reach out again if the issue continues or worsens.

Update is done.

Cache clear does temporarily abate, but only in conjunction with force close. Issue returns inside a half hour.

This issue is PIP agnostic. Background or foreground does not change the characteristic.

I will copy this into the appropriate sections and file feedback with Google.

I had a similar issue - YouTube playback drained the battery a lot and my phone got really hot in the area beside the camera. Clearing caches doesn't do anything.

Solution: go into app settings, select YouTube, then select uninstall updates. After that, block updates for the YouTube app.

Perhaps some day they or Samsung will get around to fixing all these battery drain issues.

You can't block updates. It's a system app. It will eventually force update. Samsung also bundles an updated version in OneUI updates so you can only go back to whatever version was last included in OneUI.

Yes, it goes back to the version that came with the OS. But you can block updates as that's what I'm currently doing.
