Samsung messages sending as sms suddenly

My messages to my boyfriend have started sending as sms (as have messages to a friend that once showed as delievered/read) I'm not sure what the issue is or how to resolve it. As far as I know my settings haven't changed

I've figured it out incase anyone else runs across this problem. Or rather I figured out how to fix it not what caused it.

I went into the Google message app, set it as default. Went back to Samsung messages, set it as default. Re-registered for the "chat features" and once registration was successful (it failed once) everything seems back to normal.

Why not use Google Messages instead?

I am trying to figure out how to get the read/ delivered receipt notification. You're getting what I am looking for. I used to have it, it's set up for me to have it, but nothing appears anymore
