Here's DeX running directly on a Galaxy Note 9 phone display - no external monitor needed: https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/comments/18v38fx/hell_yes/

Samsung can easily make this work on the Fold (or any other device for that matter), they just choose not to.

Please allow DeX to be used directly on the Fold's inner display when unfolded, just as you can on the Tab S devices. This has been demonstrated to be possible with a rooted device - see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/add-more-features-to-oneui-5-beta-rayos-rom-or-stock-rooted-oneui...

Add "standalone" to the line in /system/etc/floating_features.xml <SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>dual,wireless,dexforpc</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE> so it becomes <SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>dual,wireless,dexforpc,standalone</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_DEX_MODE>

After applying, the DeX UI will be available on the phone's local display - no external display needed.

This would be a perfect showcase of DeX being the next generation in mobile computing - being a PC that can be folded up and fit in your pocket, then unfolded and used as a desktop without the need to connect to an external display.

Xioami already showed this concept in action with their recent folding device - it ought to be a no-brainer for Samsung too DeX to be used this way directly on the Fold's display, too.

I was really hoping the Fold 3 would implement this feature, but it didn't, and that literally stopped Mr from buying it. Should this feature be added in an update, or committed to for the Fold 4, consider me sold.

Anyone else share this sentiment? Thanks 😊

No, it's not.

I've barely mentioned Chromecast. It was a passing thought in the OP, a by-product of the core idea suggested there, and then again in a direct response to you conflating Miracast and Chromecast.

What's stopping me from using DeX on my Fold is that the Fold does not support DeX directly on the display. That's literally the point of this thread - To be able to use DeX without connecting to an external display, directly on the inner display of the Fold.

Your experience with the S23 is irrelevant to the point.

"Your OG statement for use of Dex on Fold in no way differs of what can BE done with external screen."

That's literally the point. Why would I want it to be different? I want the same experience directly on the Fold without needing an external display. This is the same as how a Tab can already run DeX without an external display.

In fact the functionality already exists on the Fold. You can unlock it by rooting the stock ROM and "flipping a switch". Samsung has simply disabled existing functionality. There is no R&D required.

Why can't you grasp that?

I KNOW THIS! I specifically stated this days ago in 1 of my 1st replies yet you completely missed that!

There is a specific REASON Samsung has not implemented this and particularly BLOCKED updates to rooted or custom ROMs!

Show me 1 specific post on a forum or site how happy the experience someone has had doing what you're asking over 3mths and lists what they use it for (applications)!!!

I'll wait!
I can assure you over 80% haven't kept this and barely use it

Honestly I highly doubt Samsung operates like Apple here - limiting features to upsell hardware.
Samsung already (globally) selsl THE most tablets for any Android OS tablet maker - bare none. They are making their revenues & profits here without issues. Publicly available anylytics can back this statement.

Much Much cheaper to first implement Tab S7=S9 as a Dex external+secondary screen for Galaxy S + Z Fold/Flip devices = which WOULD align wiht your statement of conjecture here. Yet samsung hasn't done that.

"Statement of conjecture" literally makes no sense in this context and is redundant.

Using a Tab as a secondary screen for a Fold is entirely beside the point.

The point is to use DeX directly on the Fold's display without the need for an external display. The Fold is a tablet. It ought to function like a Tab. I did not buy a Fold to also need to buy a secondary monitor or a Tab to serve as a monitor.

Again, the point of this thread is that the Fold should be able to run DeX directly on the Fold's inner display without needing to connect it to an external display.

Samsung's Fold 5 product page says, "Unfold a stunning, immersive screen designed for PC-style productivity and which brings an incredible viewing experience - all on a tablet-sized device."

Maybe you should have read the page before you told me to.

The Fold is a 2-in-1 device. That's literally the point of the device - it's a phone that can be opened into a tablet.

Reading comprehension isn't your best suit!

The site does NOT say it's a tablet but tablet like experience. It also states PC-style productivity but you didn't make the second mistake to state the Fold IS a traditional PC or is one did you? NO So Y did you make the oblivious mistake to state it's a tablet when it is NOT!

Again Reading isn't my issue. Reading comprehension IS YOURS as you've clearly and repeatedly demonstrated.

Your post about OK literary the point of having no difference in Dex yet to have it directly on the device IS still asking for a difference! There are lots of reasons why Samsung has NOt officially done this; yet you and many other fail to grasp searching for those technical reasons beyond looking at spec sheets and developers that have found a way - killing warranty support in the process.

Minimal caps for emphasis - since this is now the 5th time you've posted 'please go away' like a whining spoiled child.

1 Asking someone else to go away - goes against forum rules.
2 You're doing so because you still cannot accept opinions against your own - because of fear your opinions on this reqeust for Fold series may not actually be sound nor wanted nor used as heavily as your hearts received may preclude. Mentioning Xiaomi concept doesn't matter its a concept - the fact they failed to produce it themselves and every other fold type manufacturer should show you there is something enherently wrong or failing for the end user to implement. Yet so obvious you fail to grasp this. Instead wailing and complaining its been 1.5yrs and still nothing changed blaming Samsung. Way to go ask for something then place insulting blame to the company you want something from. lol shows what kind of character your made from.
3. simply grow up and ignore.
4 Onc eyou post infor on these threads it is no longer yours, you do not own it, and thus, yet irregardless have no right to tell anyone to go anywhere. (sounds like someone from the South in USA would say to immigrants).

You must feel broken from those with difference of opinion, especially when you don't get what you want.

You're literally the only person disagreeing with the feature request. You are the minority. Go away.

Not the only one disagreeing, yet its even more interesting you've chosen the word 'minority' hmm.

Sorry I'm not a sicophant here. One of the great things about Forums is discussions. Most important of them is allowing for healty difference of opinion. This has been this way since BellutinBoardSystems. You still cannot graps this concept - you must be stomping your feet, and cursing at your screen right now lol.
