Samsung offered a more detailed explanation of why the Galaxy Z Flip 5 doesn't support DeX. The company clarified that the foldable flip phone lacks DeX on Monitor, DeX on PC, and Wireless DeX support for one reason: It couldn't implement DeX because of insufficient “heatproof performance in the structure.”
The company experimented with the concept, it sounds like, but couldn't get the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to run DeX within acceptable parameters due to overheating. It's important to underline that this doesn't imply the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has an overheating issue outside of DeX. Samsung DeX is heavy on system resources across the board.
And compared to mobile games, which rely more on GPU performance, DeX can't be tuned on the fly through Game Booster, Game Optimizing Service (GOS), undersampling, lower texture resolutions, and so on.
In this video Samsung was SPECIFICALLY careful to avoid WHAT environment was being tested cold, hot or humidty for the Z Flip 5. The Z Flip 5 got IPX4 while the Z Fold 5 got IPX8 ratings, each got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. [NOTE: This video was released 7.27.2023 ... roughly 3 days left to make it a year from now; I expect another for the Z Flip 6]
This year the Z Flip 5 has a larger vapor chamber than the Z Fold 6, in terms of surface area - and possibly by volume since the latter is a lot more narrow and elongated in shape. The Z Flip 6's vapor chamber covers the ENTIRE PBA (motherboard) of the unit.
[An aside note: makes you wonder WHY the Z Fold 6's PBA is so much larger: surely double storage and RAM don't take up that much space?! Hmm - maybe next year S-Pen silo will happen]
There really isn't an excuse this year. IF Samsung thinks/feels that youth whom are the primary purchasers and users of the Z Flip 6 would not use Dex ... its Samsung's fault for not advertising it!!
Samsung Dex is a killer feature bar-none! Even with Android 15 coming with a 'desktop mode' its pitiful by lack of features and conparison.
Please bring more portability to flip family. Dex was a reason to move to samsung. I understood that turning on some dev feature, gave us new dex but its impossible to focus to the new screen with keyboard and mouse. My mouse and keyboard often are locked in focus on the flipphone. Its a dealbreaker but I already bought it. Please consider bringing more support for external display. I want to like samsung and its flip line up. But right now i feel quite uncomfortable spending a premium to get half baked solution.
