A Facebook ad popped up today stating a "Guaranteed" trade in value for your current device towards a Flip 5 or Fold 5. This is false, all Trade Ins are subject to an "assessment" by Samsung's service provider Assurant so I thought I'd have a look.

This is an excerpt from the chat with Samsung;

Yes, But tarde in value will be based on your device condition.

‎11:14 AM

If you trade in any Galaxy Z Flip 5G series, Z flip3 series and Z flip4 series with the purchase of Galaxy Z Flip 5 or Z fold 5, then you will get a guaranteed trade in bonus of $700.00

‎11:19 AM

Notice the word "guaranteed" and obvious contradiction?

Assurant's business practices are quite simply fraudulent. I traded in an immaculate Note 20 towards a Flip 4. I then received an email that my trade in was devalued by $250.00, with Assurant claiming screen burn in damage. I had taken the precaution of photographing the Note 20 in it's entirety prior to shipping, there was no damage of any kind. I requested photographs of said damage and was provided one (1) blurry photograph of a phone screen in which no damage was visible, nor confirmation that it was even my device. I requested the device be returned to me which was refused. I requested to cancel the purchase and trade in which was refused. I had a deadline to accept the revised "offer" or be charged full retail for the Flip 4, again with the refusal to return my my Note 20.

I have been entrenched in the Samsung eco system for some time, but as devices, computers TVs and even applainces require replacement, I've been moving away from Samsung due to this one extremely negative experience, which also wasted a significant amount of my time. Once you agree to the "Terms & Conditions" you have absolutely no recourse as a consumer and no support from Samsung.

I have screenshots of the interactions of my original dispute, as well as todays chat and the ad stating "Guaranteed" trade in value.

BUYER BEWARE!

Its definitely a SCAM!!! Feb-27,2024.

I have traded my Samsung phone and  they have put  fraudulent notes  and lowered the price and they also say that the Anti-theft is not deactivated?. But  the phone was reset to the factory .

They are scammers in a way.....

100% true, these guys are scammers. Once you've paid by using your credit card and have sent in the traded in device, you're at their mercy and have no way of disputing the reduced value.

This is somewhat a blackmail because if you refuse, they will take money from your account regardless.

I sent a mint condition Note 8 which was kept in a protective case and screen protector from day one. They couldn't find any issues with it so came up with a different excuse that it was a different device type, like seriously? Your system de-coded it based on IMEI number.

Whoever is assessing our trade_in devices is either given the task to not issue a promised value or a very petty POS.

Same experience here.

Purchased a S24 with a Pixel 6a as trade-in for a 90.00$ value. Received email from Assurant with this note:

We’ve received your device and, based on the condition of the device upon inspection, have adjusted your Trade-in Value to $0.00. See below for details.

We’ve adjusted your Trade-in Value for the following reason(s):
• Device has visible signs of wear & tear

Before sending the trade-in, I’ve made pictures and video of the Pixel 6a that was in absolute pristine condition without any visible signs of wear and tear. This phone has been protected by a case and a screen protector that I’ve removed for the trade-in.

I've sent thoses pictures to Samsung support and they respond that a Samsung trade-in representative will reach out to within 5 business days but still nothing.

This is my first Samsung smartphone and i'm not impressed at all. I've filled a complaint with BBB. I guest they're waiting for my 0.00$ offer to pass the deadline of september 12th to charge my credit card. I will talk with my credit card for a charge back. What a way to treat theirs customers.

A quick way for Assurant and Samsung to save a few bucks  I sent my Galaxy S22Ultra in for trade in perfect condition.

Received  a return for  less due to "visible wear and tear"  The phone was always in a case and had glass screen cover.

When I requested a reason "wear and tear" was the answer. I asked for photo or proof....no answer.

I should have sold the phone privately for more money.

This I definitely a rip off by Samsung  and Assurant.

I think this going to be my last trading with Samsung, I will most likely leave the brand because of the fraudulent and dishonest service from Assurant. I can attest that my last 3 trade ins where a disastrous experience.
I take pride in taking care of all my devices, screen protector , cases , insurance. Each of my last trade ins were rejected because Assurant claimed the device was damaged. It is total BS!

I returned each device in perfect operating condition, as new , since I trade every year,  and still they found a way of saying it was damaged. I packaged everything in it's original box and added extra padding to the outer box.

Samsung is trying to make each trading a random event , and trying to charge customers illegally.
Luckily I was always able to escalate the issue with Samsung reps and they accepted my trade ins. Now as a customer it's not fair to go through the aggravation of having to spend hours on the phone to plead and make your case against Assurant's dishonest practices.

So I will probably never buy Samsung phones unless they find a way of making the trading experience more transparent.
